Help close the gender health gap

The gender health gap is holding Calgary back

Each of us has a story about the incredible work done by health care workers in Calgary.

But the decades-long global trend of chronically underfunding, overlooking, and misunderstanding women’s health is making their jobs all the more challenging.

Stigma around women’s health issues like pelvic floor dysfunction lead many to suffer in silence for years before seeking treatment. The mere 3.4% of medical research funding in Alberta dedicated to women’s health lags behind the national average — which is only 8%.

And many women in Southern Alberta struggle with timely access to essential services — some waiting up to 8 years to see a specialist.

The power of our community’s action

A strong community is the key to transforming women's healthcare in Calgary. By raising our voices and taking action, we can draw attention to women's health issues and work to fill these critical gaps.
